Odoo version 9.0 was released on 1 October. Compared with 8.0, which kept looking imminent without ever quite arriving, this one came out smoothly and on schedule. Perhaps the process of adding features to the online edition first and folding them into the next stable release has settled in. It is an unglamorous thing to praise, but running the product life cycle to the announced plan counts for something.
There look to be a great many improvements — I am working through them myself — but the point worth noting above all is that from this release the licence changes from AGPL to LGPL, and the product splits into an Enterprise edition that includes closed modules and an open source Community edition. The change was argued over noisily in the community and among partners, and it has settled here on the grounds of keeping Odoo developing and keeping the ecosystem intact. Whatever one makes of it, I have some admiration for the skill and the force of the people who got a change this large over the line.

Odoo moves fast, and keeping up with the new information and features is hard work for partners like us. We intend to enjoy that too, and to go on delivering better value to the community and to our customers.
