We built a Stock Forecast module (for V7)

This post was published in August 2014 and introduces a module built for Odoo V7. It does not work with current versions.

We have built something called a Stock Forecast module. It lets you see how the stock of an item at a particular location is expected to move in future. Odoo generates planned stock-move records against sales orders, purchase orders and manufacturing orders, and the module works from those.

Filter the records carefully on Odoo's standard stock-move list and you can pull out the future moves, but the stock position is not shown, so the forecast quantity at a given point in future is hard to read. Several customers asked for something better, so we put a module together. It is available for download here, on the Apps page.

Installing it adds a menu item called “Stock Forecast”.

Choose an item and a location, press the “View Forecast” button, and you get the forecast quantity of that item at that location at each future point — that is, at each planned stock-move date.

Incidentally, planned stock moves come in two kinds, stock going out and stock coming in, and this feature puts the outgoing ones in red. A negative forecast quantity is set in bold, to catch the eye.
