The 2024 OCA contribution ranking is out

The players who contributed most in 2024

Dixmit have published the 2024 edition of the contribution ranking for the OCA (Odoo Community Association) that they have been compiling for the past few years.

The score takes into account how many pull requests (PRs) to the OCA were merged, and how many reviews went into them. It may not be a perfect measure, and there is room to ask whether a ranking is the right way to present it — but as an indicator of contribution to the OCA there is nothing better available today. Our sincere respect goes to everyone in the community who works day and night to build up shared assets instead of keeping their solutions to themselves.

What Quartile and its members achieved

OCA activity still centres on Europe, and across Asia it has yet to spread beyond a few places such as Vietnam. In that setting Quartile keeps at its community work, even if the scale is still nowhere near that of the top players.

According to the spreadsheet attached to the original article, this is what Quartile and its members did in 2024.

Contrary to how we feel about it, the figures here have slipped from 2023. Our sense is that the volume of OCA work has not fallen — if anything it has grown — so we put the drop down to two things: 2024 happened to bring no new implementation on the latest version, so we did little of the new-version porting work that is, in a sense, an easy way to score; and much of what we did take on was relatively difficult, the kind that asks the reviewer to hold a lot of context.

Even so, this is not a level of activity we can be satisfied with. We have welcomed new members at Quartile this year, and we want to raise our contribution to the community further still.

Users may not be especially aware of this, but almost every Odoo implementation project uses functionality developed and maintained under the OCA. (Where one does not, it may be worth asking whether that is justified.)

And yet most Odoo service providers and users today use OCA functionality without supporting the community work behind it.

Support takes many forms, but simply spreading a little information — about the OCA, about the functionality provided under it, about the people taking part — is good for society and a great encouragement to community members. It draws more people into an interest in community work, which builds up the shared assets further, and in the end the benefit you get back grows too.
